Electronic Management System of Arboreal Assets

The Electronic Management System of Arboreal Assets is a powerful tool in the implementation of a program of urban tree planting and maintenance of green areas. It is based on the use of RFID technology and information systems, and is composed of web application, an application for portable reader, smart RFID labels prepared for installation in urban trees, also called urban forests.

How it works?

From the web application, users register in the system quantitative and qualitative aspects of important trees, such as species, common name, height, plant health, need for pruning, DAP, accessibility, root, wiring and others, besides allowing to store pictures of trees and their position georeferenced (GPS). It also allows the user to update data that change frequently, such as height, the phase of the tree, its relationship with the wiring if there is risk of falling and others, through the electronic inventory conducted in the field.

The system records the entire history of events related to each tree, allowing managers of these assets follow their evolution, and also program the maintenance performed.

The inventory, also called tree sense, allows the improvement and planned increase of green areas (urban forests) by implementing a program of urban tree planting and maintenance of green areas.

Among the main effects of a successful urban forestry, we mention:

  • Temperature reduction, because the mass tree intersects, reflects, absorbing and transmits solar radiation, improving the air temperature in the urban environment;
  • Reduction of urban air pollution by the removal of particles and gases in the air;
  • Control of humidity in the air through evapotranspiration;
  • Property appreciation and aesthetic harmonization through the built environment (ABREU, 2008; RIO GRANDE ENRGIA, 2000);
  • Additionally, it is attributed to the urban trees a role of "living memory" of a location, because keeps relevant features of an era (MONICO, 2001; GERMANI, 2004);
  • Likewise, the presence of green as a source of contemplative entertainment, performs an important role with the psychological health of people (NICODEMO; PRIMAVESI; SILVA FILHO, 2002).

An isolated tree can exude on average 400 liters of water per day, producing an effect equivalent to five cooling air conditioning capacity of 2500 kcal each working 20 hours a day. This vapor is mixed with the particles of air pollution, and when they accumulate in clouds, fall as rain. Moreover, this steam helps to balance the region's climate.

Information from the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Urban Tree Planting, Vol.6, No.4

Beyond the benefits mentioned above, the Electronic Management System of Arboreal Assets can be used as a tool for environmental education, because all data of the trees, as well as its evolutionary history, may be available for inspection by citizens through internet, allowing the dissemination of knowledge and good environmental practices for the new generations.
